Sam hopes you are enjoying the Zodireads books you have read so far. She is very fond of Sam Digs Pig, though she thinks Fox in a Fix is the funniest. Well, actually, she thinks they are all funny. She also wants you to know that she has never in her life sat on a ham.
The first book Sam only use 10 different words, so it is designed to be very easy for kids to read, even those kids who barely know what any of the sounds are for the letters. If you can read Sam, then Sam knows that you know the sounds /s/, like at the begiinning of Sam or sit or silly, the sound /a/, like at the beginning of apple, or acrobat, or afghan; and the sound /m/ like at the beginning of milk, mud, and monkey. How many sounds are in your name? In the story bag for this book, you will find all the things that Sam sits on, and you will find a card for every word in the book. You can use the cards and the pobjects to act out the book or make up your own ideas.
The Cat Sat, which is the second book, has just a few more 
sounds than Sam. It has a cat in it too, just like Sam does. Sam is not fond of cats, though she doesn't mind them in books. In The Cat Sat, the cat is not intersted in playing at all. Sam brings her a toy bat to play with, and the cat won't even look at it. Then Nan brings the cat a toy rat, one of the cat's favorite toys, and she won't look at that either. What does this cat want? There is another cat in this story bag, along with the bat she didn't like and the rat she didn't want, and something else, along with more word cards. Maybe you can write a story about things your cat likes.
By the time you can read The Satin Mat, you will probably know most of the sounds in the alphabet. This book has another cat in it, which Sam thinks might be too many cats entirely. Sam does especially like this book though, because everyone is playing tricks on the cat and hiding stuff under the satin mat where the cat likes to sleep. The cat is not very happy with that game. The poor cat! Her silly family keeps playing tricks on her. This story bag holds a satin mat, word cards, and all the things the family hides under it. Maybe you can make up a story where the family hides under the mat.
After you finish The Satin Mat, you are ready for Sam Digs Pig. A near tragedy in which Sam loses a friend. But fortunately not for long. Sam likes this story, because she really does like to hide her stuffed animals under the leaves in her yard. Max Monkey does not usually live in the tree though. He lives in the house with all of Sam's other animals. This book uses just a few more sounds, so you can keep practicing reading the ones you know along with these new ones. In the story bag, for this book, you will find the little stuffed pig, and some leaves to hide it. What else could you hide under those leaves?
Liz Has to Go to Bed poses a problem of a different kind. Liz has too many friends and none of them are sleepy. They are way too noisy, and she can not take her nap. Sam says this book always makes her sleepy. I bet you never, ever want to play when it's time for bed. I bet you always go right to sleep, after asking for, "Just one more story, P-L-E-E-A-S-S-E!" Liz's story bag has a sleeping mat for Liz and each of her firends. You can put the into bed or let them get up and play while you read the story from the book or with the word cards.
You will find the sixth book, Fox in a Fix, to be quite a bit longer
than the others. A lot happens in this story, and it takes rather a while for Fox to get rescued. The story bag is full of word cards, because this is a very long book. But you should be able sound out nearly every word out just like the other Sam books. If just might take you a couple of days to read the whole book. You will also find the Fox, a mop, and a log in the story bag along with all those cards.
In late 2010, Zodireads will be adding 6 more books to the Sam Series. You will have to keep checking this website to see when they come out. Or you can send Sam your e-mail and ask her to let you know when you can buy the rest of your books. She will be happy to write you when they come out or anytime at all.
